House cleaning regularly is necessary for a spotless home and a life free of allergies. Sometimes your house cleaning supplies may run out, leaving you stuck to clean with whatever you have on hand. Maybe the allergies we mentioned are giving you a tough time? Luckily, there are ways you can clean with eco-friendly and safe alternatives at home.
Let’s get things started with the following easy tips:
Removing Bathtub and Sink Stains
Lemon and vinegar are a combination often used in households as a cleaning agent, but did you know grapefruit is just as effective and fresh? It’s worth mentioning that even if you’re using lemon and grapefruit to keep your home clean of unpleasant stains, they’re still not completely antibacterial, ergo not a perfect replacement for sanitation purposes. For the stubborn stains out there, you can still use them, as they are great at getting rid of most. Just slice a grapefruit in half, sprinkle some salt onto one half and use that to scrub the sink or tub, especially the tougher stains. Rinse the pulp away with water and you’re done.
Cleaning Screens with Coffee Filters
You can scrub your television or tablet clean using nothing but the humble coffee filter. As it turns out, the blotting paper cones inside the filter are great for scrubbing away streaks and lint as well as filtering your coffee. Since the filter works by catching dust, all the while cutting the static on your screen, it’s the perfect tool. It doesn’t leave any unwanted fibres behind like you’d see with the more traditional cloth. If you’re not interested in spraying your appliances with household cleaners, then this can be used on pretty much any kind of screen, from laptops and TVs to phones and more.
Using a Dishwasher for More than Dishes
Your dishwasher is a great invention that cuts down through stains and fat, doing away with the tedious washing of pots, pans and glasses. Are you aware you can use it for more than that? If you have any ceramics, glass and plastics around your home, feel free to put them in the dishwasher for a deep clean. This works for anything from light fixtures to toothbrush holders and even toys. For smaller items, make sure you place the bits in a dishwasher container, so they won’t fall all over the place.
Cleaning Silver and Jewellery with Aluminium Foil And Baking Soda
Silver is a beautiful metal but also needs proper maintenance over long periods to keep that moon-like shine. Air naturally tends to tarnish silver, so your favourite jewellery will dull and get covered with streaks and spots. Proper cleaning is necessary if you want to keep it looking great, and the good news is that it’s possible even without silver cleaning products. You won’t have to spend much money, like aluminium foil and baking soda is all you need to bring back that shine. Prepare a large bowl with aluminium foil, keeping the shiny side up, then place the stained silver items inside the bowl. Pour some boiling water into the bowl, covering up the silver entirely, then add heaping tablespoons of baking soda inside until you have a good mix. Let the silver soak inside the liquid for no less than half an hour, then remove it and rinse it well. Make sure no soda remains on the pieces, cleaning it all up. This should return your silver items to their original shine, all without having to purchase any special products in the process.
