It might have been a long week and you feel like your home is a wreck. You feel the need to unwind and relax, but you can’t do it when the house is a mess. You may have just got the news that you have guests on the way, and you would hate to see it like this. You need to clean things up, lightning-fast. Speed cleaning isn’t quite as deep as actual cleaning, but you can do it in a pinch to make things look better. It would be enough to make your home look decent, but you will still have to do a deep cleaning later on.
Tips to Speed Clean Your Home in No Time
The Entryway
Gather your clutter in a basket and set it aside. Throw away any trash you find and spray and wipe your doorknob, both inside and out. Shake your doormat outside and sweep and vacuum any debris you can see.
The Living Room
Since this is the room where you will meet your guest, whether you call it a parlour, living room, lounge or sitting room doesn’t matter. You need to get it tidy and free of clutter, as this will be the main impression your home leaves with your guests. If you never entertain your guests, you should at least have a place where you can relax in peace.Throw away any trash you see and find, and collect the clutter and belongings in another basket. Set all that aside, then straighten up your magazines, books and other items around the room. Use a damp microfiber cloth to dust every surface – tabletops, window sills, bookshelves, etc. Straighten up the blankets and sofa cushions and fluff them up. Use a vacuum with an upholstery attachment to clean your seating surfaces. Sweep or vacuum areas with high traffic.
The Kitchen
Tidy kitchens make for easier cooking, as well as fixing up breakfast and any other activity. Guests will usually wander into your kitchen at some point too, so you should speed clean it to avoid embarrassing yourself. Once again, gather any clutter in a basket, then set it aside to deal with later on. Empty the sink, get a microfiber cloth and a bit of dish soap and scrub it down, then rinse it. Use a dry cloth to buff any water spots on your windows above the sink or nearby surfaces. Do the same with the taps. Free up any space you can on the counters and wipe the appliances, then do the same with the kitchen table and the stovetop. Empty the trash and set a clean dish towel, wipe the floors and keep it spotless.
The Bathroom
When you have guests over, your guests will use the bathroom. Focus on making sure your surfaces there are sparkling clean and eliminate any odours. Put away anything on the countertops, wipe debris from the counter and sink with a microfiber cloth and do the same with the base of the toilet and the tank. Spray the toilet seat and bowl with a bit of disinfectant, then let dry out. Use a microfiber cloth and disinfectant spray, then clean the counter, sink and taps. Wipe the toilet seat now, then use a brush to scrub the bowl and flush. Check for any missing supplies and replace them.
The Bedroom
If you are speed cleaning and there are visitors inbound who won’t stay the night, you can pass over the bedroom for a different day. Other than that, speed clean it to keep it tidy between deeper cleaning. Throw away any trash you see, hang up clean clothes, pick up the clutter and put it where it belongs. Make the bed, and put away anything on the nightstand and dresser. You can use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe the free space of all surfaces.
